Hi! My name is Aniysa Joseph. I am 16 years old and live in Georgia. Not too long ago, I had the privilege of shadowing a Dermatologist. As I observed the patients she treated, I noticed the prevalence of Atopic Dermatitis (AD). I had moderate to severe AD when I was very young, however, because of my mom's proactivity, I was able to receive proper care and learn how to manage my symptoms, and live a healthy life. The reminder of seeing people with the same condition I did, sparked my curiosity regarding this topic. When I got home, I decided to research the condition further and specifically understand how it affects the underserved population. This patient population primarily consists of individuals who have skin of color. It is important to know how Atopic Dermatitis affects people of different shades of skin, and that is why Shades of AD has the mission of spreading awareness of this condition, providing resources, and encouraging others to feel confident in who they are.
